Paris, the center of attentions in art especially this weekend.

1 – With the reopening of the Paris’ Picasso Museum after 5 years of major renovation.

After five years of delays and a total of almost €52 million renovation, the museum’s reopening is finally set for the artist’s birthday, Oct. 25. The renovation has doubled the public space, modernized outdated facilities and added a new entrance, a multimedia auditorium and a Cubist garden with geometric topiary trees.

The museum’s 17th-century hôtel particulier (…) now holds the largest Picasso collection in the world: some 5,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, illustrations, ceramics, sketches and notebooks, along with 150 works by other artists from Picasso’s own collection.

Entrance is free during the whole weekend.

2 – The inauguration of the new Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris

The 11,000-square-meters building was design by the one and only Frank Gehry – his most important work to date. It is the vision of an “iceberg” wrapped in a fragmented shell of billowing “glass sails” nestled in the quiet Jardin d’Acclimatation of Paris’s Bois de Boulogne.

The inauguration will take place in three stages from October 2014 to September 2015, with each stage marked by an exhibition, a partial presentation of the collection and a schedule of events.

The first stage is dedicated to discovering the architecture of the Fondation’s building, with an exhibition concerning the building itself. Alongside a very select group of emblematic works from the collections of various major contemporary artists.

Entrance is free during the whole weekend — with a ticket pre-booked on the Fondation’s website.

3 – La FIAC at Grand Palais Paris

Some people would predict the death of the FIAC (International Fair of Contemporary Art) 10 years ago. Well it has never been biger and so talked about since they changed the people at the head of the organization.

Well haters: the launch of (OFF)ICIELLE and FIAC’s 41st edition are the opportunity to discover a rich artistic program in Paris and throughout France. More than 191 galleries will be exhibiting.

The fair is also taking place outside of the Grand Palais where you can see modern Works of art for free in Jardin des Tuilleries, on the River sides, Place Vendôme of cours (remember Paul McCarthy’s giant ‘butt plug’ sculture ?) and so many other places in Paris that are listed inside the official iPhone App that can be downloaded here: http://www.fiac.com/fr/application-iphone-fiac.html
